EU Embassies' Open House Banner

Sixth Annual European Union Open House, Saturday,
May 12, 2012, 10 AM to 4 PM

On May 12, 2012, the Delegation of the European Union to the United States and the Embassies of the 27 EU Member States to the United States will open their doors to the Washington public during the EU Open House Day. This annual event kicks off Europe Week, which means seven days of Europe-related events all over the United States. EU ambassadors take Europe Day to local schools. Each embassy will open to the public from 10 am until 4 pm on Saturday, May 12, 2012, offering a rare look inside the buildings and providing a unique opportunity to experience the country's cultural heritage and national traditions. Free shuttle bus service will be provided throughout the day with stops at embassies and select Metro stations. The EU Delegation and the Embassies will offer authentic music, dance, food, film, art and fun for the whole family. .

On September 13, 2011--for the fourth consecutive year--the embassies of the European Union celebrated “Euro Night,” hosted by La Maison Française. Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed live music followed by dance mixes from Spanish DJ Digital 21, and took a cultural tour around Europe--feasting on national dishes and sampling drinks from the open bars. More than 20 European Union embassies showcased their culinary specialties and traditions during this festive event. So, don't miss the next captivating and savory (once-a-year) European cultural journey, right here in the Nation's Capital!

Kids Euro Festival, October 14 - November 10, 2011

The 2011 Kids Euro Festival again presented the exceptional diversity of European cultures, showcasing the vitality of EU arts through children's entertainment. The 2011 Festival was an overwhelming success, as were its predecessors. The festival is geared toward Washington, DC, metropolitan-area children aged 3 to 12 years old and their families. Activities include weekday, in-school performances; weekend shows and workshops at theaters and cultural institutions; activities for hospitalized children; teacher workshops and seminars; workshops for local children's artists. The 2011 AFI-EU 24th Annual Film Showcase--the signature fall cultural event for Washington, DC, movie lovers and the area’s embassy community--was once more a spectacular event. The 2011 edition of AFI's long-running showcase included the Opening Night selection, THE WOMAN IN THE FIFTH, Pawel Pawlikowski's moody, Paris-set thriller starring Ethan Hawke and Kristin Scott Thomas, a British/French/Polish co-production from the Polish-born, UK-based Pawlikowski; the Closing Night presentation, TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY, a highly anticipated screen adaptation of John le Carré's seminal Cold War thriller, featuring an all-star cast including Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, and John Hurt, and directed by Sweden's Tomas Alfredson.
