FAQs 2008

How long does EU Open House Day last?
Participating Embassies will be open to the public from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM. Buses will begin departing from Dupont Circle at 10:00 AM.

Do I need to RSVP? How much does it cost?
RSVPs are not required. Entrance to all of the Embassies and the shuttle service is free, although some Embassies may have food or other items for sale.

Where are the participating Embassies located?
All of the European Union Embassies are located in Northwest DC. Check the Participants page for the address of each Embassy.

How do I get to the participating Embassies?
Free shuttles will depart from three red line Metro stations–Farragut North, Dupont Circle and Cleveland Park–beginning between 9:30 AM and 9:45 AM. Each Metro station serves as the starting point for one of three shuttle bus routes: red, blue or green. Please visit our Maps and Transportation page to learn which Embassies are served by each shuttle route. Additionally, some Embassies can be reached easily by walking from a metro stop.

Please arrive early to avoid long lines to board the shuttles. Shuttle service will end shortly after 3:00 PM.

What should I wear?
The EU Open House is a casual family event – no formal wear required! However, we recommend that you dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable shoes and clothing.

What should I bring with me?
For security reasons, all visitors aged 16 and over must bring valid photo identification to EU Open House Day. We recommend that guests avoid bringing oversized bags, as all Embassies will conduct security inspections. While you may bring a camera, please be aware that certain Embassies will prohibit photography.

Are the Embassies wheelchair and/or handicapped accessible?
Each participating Embassy will do its utmost to accommodate all guests, regardless of disability. However, parts of some Embassies may not be wheelchair or handicapped accessible.

What if the Embassy I want to visit is full?
Capacity at some Embassies is limited. If an Embassy is full when you visit, please be patient – you may also choose to proceed to the next Embassy. For more information on specific Embassies, please visit our Participants page.
