*Family-Friendly Celebration of European Unity, German Culture, Food and Music at the German Embassy During the EU Open House Day on Saturday, May 8*
The German Embassy is offering great entertainment for the whole family at the EU Open House event on Saturday, May 8. While the kids test their skills at the soccer kick, get their faces painted or let off steam on the moon bounce, the adults can take a 10-minute crash course in German, become an Embassy "spokesperson of the day" on video or take a tour of the Ambassador's residence. Under this year's joint theme "Green Europe: Good for the Economy and the Environment," the German Embassy will offer films, an exhibition on renewable energies, and eco-friendly give-aways. Visitors will also have a chance to ride the "energy bike" and earn prizes for generating electricity with their pedaling. Besides this special focus, visitors will get to know the Embassy better through a stimulating blend of information, activities and entertainment. Traditional and contemporary German music will help to work up an appetite for bratwurst, pretzels, soft drinks, beer and other German goodies. The food will be available for purchase. Program Description: The public is invited to come and view paintings by 16th and 17th Century Dutch Masters on display at the Residence of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United States. The neo-classical Residence is home to tapestries and paintings by such Dutch Masters as Jan van Goyen and Abraham Storck. Maximum capacity: 3000 for the duration of the event.

Britain on Your Doorstep: Showcasing the Best of Britain
Program Description: Come see what Britain has to offer by visiting our bazaar and the Ambassador's renowned Residence Gardens. Upon landing on our doorstep, you will find a taste of Britain catered by Union Jacks British Pub and MacAllan Whisky, garden talks by UK garden expert Andrea Wulf, arrangement demonstrations with the Ambassador's floral designer and see what orchids are blooming in the Ambassador's greenhouse; a salute to the UK-US armed forces partnership; eco-friendly displays such as wind turbines and solar panels; child-friendly activities such as facepainting, making cards for troops and voting in an election; and entertainment provided by the British School, Trunk Munkees, and MadLantic. Special this year: The British Embassy will be selling British Embassy t-shirts to raise funds for Azalea Charities and British Army Benevolent Fund of America wounded warriors.
