Ferrero-Waldner: EU is Stronger Global Partner for U.S.

Speaking at Texas A&M University today, European Union External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner discussed how the EU has strengthened its foreign, security and defense policy, making it a more effective global partner for the United States. "We now have around 60,000 European peacekeepers serving across the globe. And we are working aggressively to combat terrorism, promote sustainable development and secure peace in troubled parts of Asia, Africa and the Middle East." Commissioner Ferrero-Waldner also pointed out that, closer to home, enlargement of the European Union has been a tremendously successful EU foreign policy achievement, helping to spread democracy, peace and prosperity across the continent, most recently in Central and Eastern Europe.
