European Commission Meets with African Union in Ethiopia

European Commission President José Manuel Barroso, along with nearly half of the European Commission, will meet with African Union Commissioners next week in Ethiopia to discuss development matters and the emerging EU-AU institutional partnership. Talks will also focus on the EU's Strategy for Africa, adopted last year, taking into account the implementation of the EU-Africa Partnership on Infrastructure. Other topics include how better to manage migration flows for the benefit of both continents.

The EU has been very supportive of the AU, led by former Malian President Alpha Oumar Konaré, and has set up a new African Peace Facility to assist African peacekeeping operations, most notably the AU-led effort in Darfur.
