EU Pushes for Doha Agreement

More than 60 trade ministers are meeting in Geneva today for World Trade Organization negotiations to push forward the ongoing Doha round of trade talks, with negotiations principally focused on agriculture, industrial goods and services. The parties are working towards a final deal to provide the world's poorest countries with opportunities for economic growth and market access.

European Union Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson, who has been pressing hard for successful completion of the talks, noted, "As President Bush said in Vienna, the Doha Round is too important to fail. Any negotiator tempted by the false comfort of an inflexible and entrenched position in Geneva should remember that." MORE
