European Commission Presents New Energy Efficiency
Action Plan
The European Commission has announced its Energy Efficiency
Action Plan, a package of measures designed to reduce EU energy
consumption by 20 percent annually by the year 2020. "By saving
energy, Europe will help address climate change, as well as its
rising energy consumption and dependence on fossil fuels imported
from outside the Union's borders," said EU Energy Commissioner
Andris Piebalgs. "The direct cost of our energy consumption could be
reduced by more than 100 billion euros annually."
