The European Commission has appointed Mr. Ilkka Uusitalo as Head of its newly-established Delegation in Iraq. This decision will strengthen the EU's presence in the country and will contribute to the deepening of EU-Iraq relations. External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner said: "This appointment marks a major milestone in the development of EU relations with Iraq. It is a powerful signal of our commitment to support the Iraqi government and the Iraqi people in their efforts to build the stable country they deserve. I am confident that with the experience he brings from previous posts, he will do an excellent job in building important new ties with Iraq."
