EU, Iraq Open Trade/Development Negotiations

The European Commission and the Iraqi government have begun negotiating an EU-Iraq Trade and Cooperation (Development) Agreement to strengthen relations and help integrate Iraq into the world economy.  "Establishing this framework for EU-Iraq trade relations is a small part of Iraq's difficult road to stability," said EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson. "Those committed to Iraq's peaceful future must begin planning for it now."
