EU-U.S. Summit: Vienna - June 21, 2006
European Commission President Jose
Manuel Barroso, Austrian Chancellor and EU President Wolfgang
Schussel and other leaders from the European Union will meet with
U.S. President George W. Bush later this month for the annual
EU-U.S. Summit. Topics on the agenda include energy security,

EU Commissioner Frattini Confident of Resolution on
EU-U.S. Passenger Name Record Agreement
Despite a European Court of Justice's ruling
blocking the EU-U.S. agreement on transferring airline passengers'
personal data, European Commissioner for Justice, Freedom and
Security Franco Frattini said the EU will still be able to salvage

EU Energy Policy
In an address to the Polish Parliament, EU
Commissioner for Energy Andris Piebalgs discussed the need for the
EU to speak with one voice as the world's second largest energy
market, with over 450 million consumers. The EU must tackle the new
energy landscape and negotiate the best possible conditions for
trade and investments in the energy field, while demonstrating
solidarity on matters of energy security. MORE
EU Proposes €24 Billion in Aid to Africa, Caribbean
and Pacific Islands
EU Development Ministers have proposed a €24
billion aid package for 77 "ACP countries" for 2008-2013, a 35
percent increase over the last round of EU Development Funding. MORE
EU, U.S. Renew Cooperation on Biotechnology
Research
Janez Potocnik, EU Science and Research
Commissioner, was in Washington last week to renew the EC (European
Commission)-U.S. Task Force on Biotechnology Research, which has
fostered transatlantic cooperation in life sciences and
