More EU Humanitarian Aid for Congo
The European Commission has
boosted total aid for relief operations in Congo to 50 million euros
($60 million) for 2006. EU Development and Humanitarian Aid
Commissioner Louis Michel announced additional monies recently for
direct assistance to the displaced in Katanga Province, as well as
returnees and host communities. MORE
European Industrial R&D Spending Jumps
The 2006 EU Industrial Research
& Development Investment Scoreboard shows that the top 1,000 EU
companies increased R&D investment by an average of 5.3 percent
in 2005. The study also notes that EU companies make up 18 of the
world's top 50 R&D investors and 5 of the 10 enterprises with
the fastest R&D growth. MORE
EU Proposes Energy Capital Fund for Developing
Countries
The European Commission has
proposed a 100 million euro capital fund to mobilize private
investment in energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in
poor countries. The fund will support Commission efforts to help
develop secure, clean energy supplies in the developing world. MORE
EU and IAEA Mark 25 Years of Cooperation on Nuclear
Safeguards and Citizen Protection
The EU and the International
Atomic Energy Agency recently recognized 25 years of joint work
safeguarding nuclear material. The European Commission's Joint
Research Centre in Karlsruhe, Germany, supports the training of
inspectors and develops advanced tools and equipment to help verify
the uses of protected nuclear materials and facilities. MORE

Agriculture
