EU Responds to Crises in Somalia, Darfur

European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid Louis Michel has traveled to the Horn of Africa to meet with key parties in the Somali conflict in an effort to prevent an escalation of violence and help find a peaceful solution to the current crisis in the country.  Commissioner Michel also announced yesterday that the European Commission has allocated an additional 17 million euros for humanitarian assistance in Darfur, Sudan, and he urged the Sudanese government and rebel leaders to resume talks in the framework of the Darfur Peace Agreement.
