Subject: New EU Aviation Security Rules

EU to Set New Security Rules for Air Passengers

The European Union has approved a new set of airline security rules to address the threat of liquid explosives.  Similar to measures recently introduced in the United States and Canada, the new rules would limit individual quanitities of liquids allowed and impose other restrictions.  Welcoming the action of the EU Regulatory Committee for Civil Aviation Security, EU Commission Vice President and Commissioner for Transport Jacques Barrot said the rules "strike the necessary balance between a tough approach on security, the comfort of passengers and the needs of the industry."
