EU to Set New Security Rules for Air
Passengers
The European Union has approved a new set
of airline security rules to address the threat of liquid
explosives. Similar to measures recently introduced in the
United States and Canada, the new rules would limit individual
quanitities of liquids allowed and impose other restrictions.
Welcoming the action of the EU Regulatory Committee for Civil
Aviation Security, EU Commission Vice President and Commissioner for
Transport Jacques Barrot said the rules "strike the necessary
balance between a tough approach on security, the comfort of
passengers and the needs of the industry."
