Ambassador John Bruton Visits Alabama

Ambassador John Bruton of the European Commission Delegation to the United States is in Alabama this week, meeting with Governor Bob Riley, Lieutenant Governor Jim Folsom, Jr., and leaders of the business and civil rights communities. Ambassador Bruton will address high school and college students on EU-U.S. economic and political relations and will tour a major European-owned factory in Vance.

Noting strong EU economic ties to Alabama, Ambassador Bruton said, "The $3 trillion EU-U.S. transatlantic economy represents the largest, most integrated and longest-lasting economic relationship in the world and the transatlantic partnership is the most important driver of global economic growth, trade, and prosperity. Together the European Union and the United States represent only 10 percent of the world's population yet account for roughly 40 percent of global trade and 60 percent of GDP."
