EU Commission President José Manuel Barroso at New York Stock Exchange, Previews EU-U.S. Summit

In a speech at the New York Stock Exchange today, José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, discusses transatlantic relations and the EU-U.S. Summit in Washington on Monday. President Barroso says the Summit will "tackle head-on problems that European and American businesses face…by addressing existing, unnecessary barriers posed by divergent regulations and avoiding the emergence of new ones," and notes that the transatlantic marketplace is "still the economic engine of the world." The President points to Europe's strong economic performance of late, owing partly to EU reforms and the success of the euro. President Barroso will ring the Closing Bell for the Stock Exchange later in the afternoon.
