Mandelson: Clock is Ticking on Doha

EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson said today that Doha negotiations now need "to get down to specifics" if there is to be any prospect of a final agreement. Briefing the European Parliament's International Trade Committee, Mandelson urged all parties to accept the texts produced by the chairs of the WTO negotiating groups as the basis for a final negotiation. "The reality...is that the distance to the finishing line, in economic terms, is fairly short. The cost of remaining concessions that both developed and some developing countries need to bring into the final package is small compared to the systemic gain of doing the deal."
