European Commission Authorizes Import and Marketing of Three Oilseed GMOs

The European Commission has approved a 10-year authorization of three new genetically-modified oilseed rape crops—Ms8, Rf3 and Ms8xRf3—which have been made resistant to the herbicide glufosinate-ammonium. The oilseed rapes will only be utilized in animal feed or for industrial purposes and strict monitoring procedures will apply for their use. The developer of the oilseed rapes is required to take measures to prevent any contamination of conventional or organic rapeseed varieties.
