EU Crackdown on Misleading Airline Ticket Websites

EU Consumer Commissioner Meglena Kuneva announced today that an EU-wide investigation of websites selling airline tickets showed that over 50 percent used misleading advertising and unfair practices.

"Whether you are in Brussels or Barcelona or Munich or Manchester, consumers deserve clear and fair pricing and no hidden surprises in the small print of contract terms," said Commissioner Kuneva. "We discovered that about 50 percent of airline ticket selling websites are currently letting Europe's consumers down."

The investigation scrutinized over 400 websites by Europe's leading airlines, low cost carriers and other sites selling airline tickets. Companies have until the end of January to clean up their act or face fines or closure.
