EU to Boost Nano-Electronics

EU, Member States & Industry to Join Forces in Three Billion Euro Nano-Electronics Initiative

The European Commission has moved to create a Europe-wide public-private research partnership in nano-electronics. With an expected budget of three billion euros from industry, EU Member States, and the Commission, the ENIAC initiative will strengthen nano-electronics research and manufacturing in Europe, and lead to innovation and new products in consumer electronics and the automotive, healthcare, and environmental management sectors.

EU Commissioner for the Information Society and Media Viviane Reding said, "Semiconductor chips are the engine of the information revolution. They are continuously shrinking in size but growing in power and performance. This is a race in which Europe must look to new nano-electronic techniques to keep up."
