EU, Member States & Industry to Join Forces in
Three Billion Euro Nano-Electronics Initiative
The European Commission has moved
to create a Europe-wide public-private research partnership in
nano-electronics. With an expected budget of three billion euros
from industry, EU Member States, and the Commission, the ENIAC
initiative will strengthen nano-electronics research and
manufacturing in Europe, and lead to innovation and new products in
consumer electronics and the automotive, healthcare, and
environmental management sectors.
EU Commissioner for the Information Society and Media Viviane
Reding said, "Semiconductor chips are the engine of the information
revolution. They are continuously shrinking in size but growing in
power and performance. This is a race in which Europe must look to
new nano-electronic techniques to keep up."
