European Commission Unveils Its Vision for the Future
of the European Research Area
Responding to the challenges posed
to Europe by under-investment in research and the growing
globalization of science and technology, the European Commission has
put forward its ideas for a European research area that makes the
most of Europe's knowledge potential. This includes securing an
adequate flow of competent researchers, effective knowledge sharing
and well-coordinated research programs and priorities. The aim is to
improve the generation and use of knowledge that is crucial for the
European Union to achieve its economic, social and environmental
ambitions.
"Our future depends on Europe becoming a true knowledge society,"
said European Science and Research Commissioner Janez Potocnik. "The
European Research Area is the foundation on which this knowledge
society must be built."
