AIDS Day: Winning EU TV Spot Highlights
Prevention
Come up with a script for a 30-second TV
spot focusing on AIDS and prevention. That was the challenge given
by the European Commission to young Europeans aged 15-25. The script
of Joanna Kollbek, a 25-year-old university student from Krakow in
Poland, won the competition and has been made into a TV clip. The
spot, entitled "Chess Love," premiered on YouTube today and will be
shown on a number of TV stations, including MTV.
As we mark World AIDS Day on December 1, alarming numbers
highlight the need to continue raising awareness about this
destructive epidemic. AIDS has already claimed the lives of more
than 25 million people throughout the world, while an estimated 33.2
million live with HIV.
"We must remain vigilant and must keep in mind the fact that
HIV/AIDS is still one of the biggest preventable killers worldwide,”
said EU Health Commissioner Markos Kyprianou. "Improved knowledge,
awareness and information are essential tools that young people must
acquire, and it is our responsibility to provide them with all
necessary information and guidance. Prevention remains the best
cure.”
