Joint EU-US Operation to Seize Counterfeit Computer Goods

More than 360,000 counterfeit computer chips and network components were seized by European and U.S. customs officers in a major operation.

Dubbed Operation Infrastructure, the seizures occurred in November and December and represented the first joint Intellectual Property Rights enforcement action undertaken by the United States and the European Union.

"We will continue to build upon this operation and a growing cooperation with our U.S. colleagues to combat the global trade in fake goods," said Robert Verrue, Director General for Taxation and Customs at the European Commission in Brussels. "The EU and the U.S. are fully committed to combating counterfeiting and piracy at home and abroad. In addition, this also shows that Customs administrations are prepared to tackle difficult enforcement challenges and issues, especially when the health and safety of our citizens is at stake."
