European Commission Launches Grant Competition for EU Centers of Excellence in the U.S.

The European Commission has launched a new call for grant applications under the EU Centers of Excellence program, inviting proposals by June 16 from universities and other institutions of higher education in the United States to support "European Union Centers of Excellence" during 2008-2011.

These Centers implement high quality teaching, research, and regional outreach programs on EU and EU-U.S. topics and also participate in cooperative activities within the national Network of EU Centers of Excellence. The Commission plans to award 11 grants of up to 300,000 euros each, with additional funding provided to the institution selected as Network and Outreach Coordinator.

This is the fourth cycle of the EU Centers program, which started in 1998. The program has helped promote EU studies in U.S. higher education and served as an important information resource for a broad U.S. audience.
