NEW
Network for European Researchers in US; Survey

No. 146/04
October 21, 2004

EU COMMISSION DEVELOPS NEW NETWORK FOR EUROPEAN RESEARCHERS ABROAD (ERA-LINK)

A new web-based information network for European researchers working in the United States is being developed and an online survey is underway to define the services it will offer.

More than 100,000 European researchers work in the US. The ERA-Link (European Researchers Abroad–Link) project is based on the premise that this community is a potential asset for Europe, rather than a loss. The network will provide an opportunity for these researchers to maintain links with Europe and between one another. It will provide them with a virtual meeting place to share information and keep in touch with policy developments, research co-operation and career opportunities in Europe.

In order to ensure that ERA-Link corresponds to the needs and expectations of European researchers in the US, an online survey has been launched to allow this community to become involved in the design of the network by identifying which services they wish to see provided. (http://www.evaluationpartnership.com/surveys/eralink.htm).

The project is the brainchild of the European Commission’s Research Directorate General and the Commission’s Washington Delegation together with EU Member States’ Embassies in Washington.

ERA-Link is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2005.
