Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the CFSP, Visits New York and Washington, DC, 16-18 January 2006
Javier Solana, European Union High Representative
for the
Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), is
visiting New York and Washington, DC, from Monday,
January 16, until Wednesday, January 18, 2006. On
January 16, Mr. Solana visited New York, where he met
with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan as well as several
senior UN diplomats. In addition, the High
Representative attended a breakfast discussion hosted by
the Council on Foreign Relations.
On January 17, the High Representative traveled to
Washington, DC, where he meets with Attorney General
Gonzalez and other senior US officials. On January 18,
Mr. Solana will discuss the latest developments with
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Deputy Secretary
of State Robert B. Zoellick. The High Representative
will also meet with National Security Advisor Stephen
Hadley. In addition, Mr. Solana is scheduled to meet
with Republican Senator Chuck Hagel and Democratic
Senator Hillary Clinton.
The visit provides an opportunity to discuss a broad
spectrum of issues in the framework of
EU/US relations
and to exchange views on foreign policy issues of common
concern, including
Iran, the
Middle East, the
Western
Balkans and
Africa--in particular regional developments
in
Sudan/Darfur and
DRC Congo.
