EU Centers of ExcellenceEU Centers of Excellence (EUCE) advance the study of the EU, the understanding of its institutions and policies and EU-US relations through teaching programs, scholarly research and outreach activities extended by the Centers to their local and regional communities. The European Commission currently funds 10 EU Centers of Excellence throughout the United States (about €3.3 million 2008-2011). Policy Research and Debate
Through its Policy Research and Debate program, the European Union is providing €1 million for the 2012-2013 period to 9 US think tanks and public policy research centers for conferences, briefing sessions and scholarly research—activities designed to encourage reflection and discussion on the EU-US relationship. These projects increase awareness of issues on which the EU and US can further their cooperation, develop new ideas for reinvigorating EU-US relations and result in concrete recommendations to policymakers on how to develop the transatlantic relationship further. For the 2010-2011 period, €2 million was awarded to 11 US think tanks and public policy research centers through this program. Getting to Know EuropeThrough its Getting to Know Europe grant competition, the European Commission awarded almost €1 million in grants to 11 US-based non-governmental, non-profit organizations for programs to promote a greater knowledge of the EU within local and regional communities around the US. The funding supports a broad array of activities that will explain what the EU is and does, and raise awareness about EU policies and institutions, the EU’s role as an international actor in the economic and political field and the value of the EU-US relationship.
