General Overview

Teaching the European Union at the Secondary Level: A Brief Guide to Educational Resources provides a comprehensive overview of available resources.

EU Fact Sheets

These are policy-oriented briefs on EU/US relations and paramount issues: prepared by the European Commission's External Relations Directorate General. See also our Policy Areas (left side of our homepage), the Background Briefings prepared by the European Commission Representation in London and the Fact Sheets prepared by the European Parliament. Additional handouts will be added over time.

Presentation Materials

• Overview of EU-US Relations
• The EU Treaties (via the Europa website). Designed for a European audience but some "Explanatory Texts" (see lower right corner) may be useful for American students.
• Europe, the best idea in the world is a "diaporama" available from the Audio-Visual Library of the European Commission. You must download the .exe file as directed to view the 36-slide presentation.

Free EU Publications and Videos

• Free EU Publications: Single copies of selected EU publications may be ordered online free of charge. Mailings will only be made to addresses in the United States.
• Free EU Videos: Video titles are available to all.

Curriculum Units and Other Instructional Material

• The Goethe Institute has developed several excellent instructional kits on Germany.

EU Simulations

Though most are aimed at undergraduates, some elements of these simulations may be applied to the secondary level.

On-Line Video and Audio Materials

• Europe by Satellite (the EU TV news service) is now available live on the Internet. Viewers may select live or archived broadcasts. Programming includes sessions of the European Parliament.
• The Audio-Visual Library of the European Commission offers online access to photographs, videos and audio materials related to European integration. Resources include The Construction of Europe in 30 Photographs.
• EU at a Glance includes the European Anthem, as well as other resources.

• EU Research Guides prepared by the University of Pittsburgh

• European Multimedia is "a collection of images of people, places and events related to the European Union and its member states," prepared by the West European Studies Department, University of Indiana. Slightly dated but useful.
