On October 29th, 30th and 31st 2001 the Task Force Chiefs of Police will meet in the Egmont palace in Brussels. President of the Task Force is
Commissioner General Herman Fransen of the Belgian
Federal Police.
The Task Force was originally organised at the request of the
European Council which called for the establishment of a European Police Chiefs operational Task Force to exchange, in co-operation with
Europol, best practices and information on current trends in cross-border crime and contribute to the planning of operative actions.
In Brussels the Task Force will discuss measures concerning the security of summits, the European Council and other comparable events at the
request of the ministers of Interior Affairs and of Justice of the European Union.
Furthermore the Task Force will treat proposals concerning the fight against terrorism and an evaluation of the football tournament Euro2000 will be presented.
Participants to the Task Force are the chiefs of police of the EU-countries, the chiefs of police of the candidate countries and of Norway and Iceland as
Schengen members.
Invitation to the media
The Belgian minister of Interior Affairs, Antoine Duquesne, will address the meeting on Tuesday October 30th at 14.30h in the Conference room of the Egmont palace, Kleine Zavel in Brussels. The media are invited to assist. Afterwards a press meeting with the minister will be organised.
Commissioner general Herman Fransen and chief superintendent Patrick Zanders of the Department of International Police Co-operation of the
federal police, invite the media at the end of the three-day summit, on Wednesday October 31st at 16.00h in the
Egmont palace, Kleine Zavel in Brussels.
